Adopt Mar

Mixed Breed · Unknown

I personally have no doubt that the most beautiful dogs in the world come from the streets of Spain – and coincidentally, many of these wonderful uniques end up in the shelters of our partners, allowing you to give a home (or more than one) to one of these raw diamonds. Some of our shelter residents arrive in a pitiful condition in the facilities of our friends, and it takes love, time, and care before visitors to the shelter and our website can see the beauty that the Spanish animal welfare workers often sense from the first moment. Mar, a one-and-a-half-year-old (as of October 2023) mixed-breed lady is a perfect example for this. Covered in parasites, dehydrated, emaciated, and with a broken gaze, the sad dog lady arrived in the hands of Arca Sevilla's staff in early June. Supported by the veterinarians, the animal welfare workers cared for the friendly girl, who quickly won everyone's hearts. Now, just four months later, Mar is a different dog. Full, gleaming fur that reflects every imaginable shade of brown in the sun, bright, sparkling eyes, a tail that rarely stops wagging, ears always on alert, and ready to dive into a playful game at any hour of the day – this is our Mar today. She gets along well with other dogs and loves the small two-legged visitors to the shelter. However, Mar does not find all two-leggeds delightful – or rather, some have her to the point of wanting to feed them, because chickens, for example, would have little to laugh about near our hunting-loving hazelnut praline. The cats present in Arca have also quickly learned to make a wide berth around the free run when Mar is on the go. Mar is looking for a sporty, humorous family that wants to work on a bit more impulse control in the face of possible prey. If you therefore have a largely cat-free neighborhood, and your established house tigers are feisty and quick, if you don't keep hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, or chickens, and if you can prove a certain level of steadfastness when your usually loving, calm companion decides to unleash her inner predator, and if you can imagine playing ball with Mar in the garden, running your fingers through her soft fur on the couch, catching admiring glances from the dog park when Mar proves that she has more in her head than to hunt her own breakfast, and if you are looking for a loving and eager friend – then you should get in touch with us right away. Mar has packed her bags and is more than ready to start a life as a beloved family member.

About Mar

What life with Mar looks like

Mar is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
