Zoff

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

male dog ZOFF, born ca. May 2023, shoulder height ca. 50-55 cm & 20-25 Kilo, dog bed ab sofort gesucht. Our wonderful Zoff was born around May 2023 and has only known life in the animal shelter so far. Since he arrived as a small puppy with his siblings at our partner shelter, he has unfortunately never had the chance to learn about the outside world and has never made the leap. The sad reality of an animal shelter career. Therefore, he is today a very fearful dog who shows great insecurity towards strangers. Unknown touches scare him or are barely possible – he prefers to keep his distance and seeks protection in his large run. But those who win his trust discover a very different side: He is deeply loyal to his primary caregiver, is happy when she comes, snuggles cautiously, and wags his tail joyfully. However, he remains cautious and always vigilant, always mindful of not making a mistake. He is absolutely social with his fellow animals. For Zoff, we are looking for a quiet home in the countryside, ideally with experienced dog people without children. He will need a lot of time to adjust to his new life and to build trust. Whether he will ever be an anxiety-free dog, we cannot say – but since he has no bad experiences with people and has only known the animal shelter, there is hope that with patience, understanding, and love, he can make small progress. Who gives this sensitive male dog the chance to finally arrive? 💙 Please contact us if you would like to give him a suitable home! For Zoff, nothing is more important than finally getting out. We do not place in very urban settings or with families with young children. In his own interest. This animal is in the care of friendly animal welfare workers who are also trying to find a home for it. We are happy to assist by providing mediation support and utilizing our reach. Please only submit an adoption request if taking in the animal is possible at the time mentioned in the text and you have already discussed the acceptance of a new family member with your family (and any other involved persons like employers, landlords, or temporary caregivers).

In eigener Sache.

About Zoff

What life with Zoff looks like

Zoff is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zoff, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zoff?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zoff on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zoff if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zoff already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zoff isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zoff and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
