Mara

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

As always, their stay at the pension of our partner should only be a temporary stopover. We would like to bring Chopper, Mara, and Marta to Germany as soon as possible. There, they should find their dream home with loving people who want to offer them close family integration. May 8, 2022: Chopper, Mara, and Marta have now grown into cute puppies. It is really time for them to leave the pension behind and finally embark on their journey to Germany. Although they are well cared for and friendly at the pension: A true family life cannot replace this. Chopper, Mara, and Marta have developed wonderfully and have grown into beautiful young dogs. Unfortunately, they are still waiting for their chance to be taken in by loving families. During our project trip at the end of March 2023, we were able to visit the extremely open-minded puppies Chopper, Mara, and Marta again. Sadly, the three are still waiting for their opportunity to start a new, better life. They immediately wrapped us around their paws with their open and absolutely lovable nature, and we would be very happy if they could soon receive their ticket to their dream home. Would you like to give Mara her dream home forever? November 7, 2024: Mid-October 2024, we were once again on team tour. For four days, we were accompanied by dedicated team members who wanted to meet or revisit our partners and dogs and cats. One of our stops was Sandra's pension in Sassari, where there were not only known animals but also some newcomers. It was very important to us to see the dogs that have been waiting for a long time in the pension for a home. More than a year and a half has passed since we visited Chopper, Mara, and Marta together and tried to find families for the siblings through a website post. It saddens us greatly that we haven't managed to help them yet. On our visit this year, all three were somewhat reserved towards us strangers. Yet after just a short while, Mara and Chopper approached us and didn't just take a few treats but also cuddles. The pretty Marta couldn't overcome her shyness and watched from a safe distance. With Sandra and the people who regularly visit them, Chopper, Mara, and Marta show themselves as open-minded dogs who greatly enjoy human affection. Therefore, we would like to urge you to consider giving these male dog Chopper and female dogs Mara and Marta a foster home or even a permanent home. It will surely take some effort to get them accustomed to family life. Nevertheless, we are convinced that with understanding, the three can become wonderful family dogs. If you would like to facilitate travel arrangements for Chopper, Mara, or Marta to Germany and help pave their way to a happy life, we would be delighted to hear from you. We arrange nationwide.

About Mara

What life with Mara looks like

Mara is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mara, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mara?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mara on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mara if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mara already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mara isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mara and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
