Adopt Mara

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 8 years

Primary vaccination + Rabies. Mara is looking for her forever home. The enchanting Mara is 8 years old, currently weighs 11 kg, and has recently lost a little weight – a few extra feel-good kilograms were actually good for her. She is spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated and thus ready for the start of her new life. Mara is an absolute dream dog who wants to do everything right. Whether it's a vet visit, cleaning ears or removing ticks – she patiently and obediently participates and always shows herself to be cooperative and loving. In my opinion, she is therefore definitely suitable for beginners. In daily life, Mara is uncomplicated and pleasant: she is housebroken, well-behaved on a leash and can be left alone for up to three hours without barking or causing any trouble. Overall, she is rather a quiet dog – in four months, she was only heard barking three times, and even then only when dogs were barking on TV. During encounters with other dogs, she behaves excellently. Usually, she turns to the side herself and remains calm. In a secure area, she is very responsive without a leash and shows no hunting instinct – she watches interestedly, but reacts well to calls. Free roaming with her would certainly be possible safely. She also ignores cats. On the lead, Mara rarely uses her 8 meters – usually she looks after 3–4 meters to see where her human is and waits. She relies very much on her person of attachment and enjoys the closeness to her human. Mara would prefer to be the only princess and needs, for her happiness, actually only her two-legged companion. With a quiet, older second dog, she could probably live together, as she currently shows at her foster home – but this is not necessary for her. She wishes for a quiet home. She likes children, approaches them kindly and allows being petted. Small children have not been tested yet. However, a lively family life would probably be too much for her. And if her great character wasn't enough, Mara also has an incredibly soft, cuddly coat, in which one would like to constantly bury one's hands. Mara is currently staying with a foster family in 84453 Mühldorf am Inn and can be met there by arrangement. Who will give this wonderful, gentle dog her well-deserved forever home? About Mara

What life with Mara looks like

Mara is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ankerhunde e.V. in Novi Grad.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇦Adopting from Bosnia and Herzegovina

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mara, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mara?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ankerhunde e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mara on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mara if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ankerhunde e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mara already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mara isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ankerhunde e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mara and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
