Maria

European Shorthair · Female · Young · 2 years

I am Maria. Some time ago, I came to the animal shelter with my babies. Here we could arrive safely and grow. My little ones are now old enough to find their own families - and I too now wish for a home where I can finally arrive. People are still something foreign to me. I have not yet learned that they can also mean love, security and safety. That's why I prefer to keep my distance and not let myself be stroked at the moment. New situations and strangers make me insecure. That's why I'm looking for very special people - those who don't expect anything from me, but give me the time I need. People with patience, understanding and a big heart. Maybe one day I will realize that caresses are something beautiful. Maybe I will show my affection in my own way. What I wish for is the chance to build trust at my own pace. A quiet home would be ideal for me, where I can feel safe and learn step by step that life with people can also be beautiful. If you would like to give a shy cat the time she needs, then I look forward to maybe getting to know you. Your Maria 🐾

DE·Show original

Deine Maria 🐾

About Maria

What life with Maria looks like

Maria is a large young adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Wolfsberg in Wolfsberg.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maria, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maria?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Wolfsberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maria on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maria if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Wolfsberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maria already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maria isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Wolfsberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maria and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
