Maria

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

We do not know much about the small female German Shepherd Maria. But it is likely that her life before the animal shelter was not easy. In December 2021, Maria was found with her six puppies on a field after a passerby noticed whimpering sounds. When the animal welfare workers arrived at the location, the frightened female dog fled, leaving only her puppies to be brought into the safety of the shelter. At first, all searches for Maria were unsuccessful, but with further assistance, she was located the following day and secured with the help of anesthesia to bring her to her puppies. When Maria began to limp the next day and showed signs of paralysis, of course, there was great concern. Fortunately, all veterinary examinations revealed no serious cause for her problems, so it is assumed that her temporary impairment was merely a result of the anesthesia. She was fully recovered within a few days. Now, the pretty female dog still waits in our Hungarian cooperative shelter for her new family. All her puppies have already been adopted—only Maria was unfortunately overlooked. We wish to find active people with dog experience who have the time and desire to fully engage with Maria both physically and mentally. As a female German Shepherd, she is always attentive and would feel most comfortable living on a larger property. Life in an urban apartment would not suit her. Any children should be old enough (14+ years) and able to consider the needs of a dog. Maria is an extremely loving female dog who adores cuddling. She gets along well with the male dogs in her kennel. In her new home, Maria needs a consistent and patient hand that will teach her the basics of dog training. She already runs well on a leash, but house training and basic obedience do not happen overnight. We are sure that with a fair chance, Maria will soon become a wonderful companion through thick and thin. Where are the people who will finally give the cuddly Maria the life she so deserves? Maria travels neutered and vaccinated, with an identification chip and an EU pet passport. Before travel arrangements, Maria is tested for travel diseases at the German laboratory "Laboklin." All our shelter dogs receive a safety harness for travel arrangements. We would like to remind you that all our shelter dogs, whose backgrounds we often know little or nothing about, are rehomed directly from the intake centers to their families. In the initial period, they require a lot of time and patience. The animals are generally not house-trained, cannot go on a leash, and do not know any commands. Additionally, they may be initially shy or jumpy. If you are interested in this dog, please click this link to access the adoption form.

Aktuelle Bilder

About Maria

What life with Maria looks like

Maria is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Paradies für Tiere e.V. in Reutlingen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maria, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maria?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Paradies für Tiere e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maria on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maria if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Paradies für Tiere e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maria already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maria isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Paradies für Tiere e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maria and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
