Mario

Male · Adult · 7 years

He arrived at the dog shelter looking like a "tough guy," gloomy, with an angry look at the world... And who could blame him? In such a short time he had already had three different owners, neglected and then abandoned by all, without any fault of his own. But it didn't last long... it's impossible to be tough for long if you aren't really! Because in reality Mario is just a young adult forced to grow up too fast and relying only on himself. Today he is a sensitive emotional being who finds it hard to hold back his emotions, always ready to do something together, to experience all those things that were denied to him in his youth, he knows who he is and what he likes and makes it clear without too much beating around the bush. He is also a lot of charm and fun, seeks company and relationships, he is someone you certainly won't get bored with or be too serious with. He loves going for walks, especially to take long sniffs of everything new he finds, he is curious, in the car he spends all his time observing the world that he has still not managed to conquer. He is as happy as a child at the amusement park when new experiences are offered to him, and if you support him, he would even go to the ends of the world to discover everything he has missed so far. 🤹‍♂️ Mario is looking for a life partner, someone who can change his mind about trust and relationships, someone who wants to understand and respect him, but also dynamic and cheerful, like him. 🐶🐱 To be tested with other dogs and cats. IT·Show original

E come dargli torto? About Mario

What life with Mario looks like

Mario is a large adult dog waiting at Fuori Le Zampe ODV in Bologna.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mario, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mario?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fuori Le Zampe ODV handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mario on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mario if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fuori Le Zampe ODV will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mario already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mario isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fuori Le Zampe ODV early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mario and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
