Markiz

Male · Adult · 6 years

Markiz - king of sticks and water - only for experienced caregivers Markiz is a young, smart dog who has been through more in life than he should have. His experiences have taught him that what he loves must be protected - a person, a toy or a bowl of food. Trust and security are of great value to him. Fortunately, when he feels good in the company of a person, he can cooperate beautifully. He joyfully retrieves the ball and waits for the next throw, and playing together brings him great pleasure. Not everyone is immediately accepted by him, so he needs a caregiver who will give him time and space. However, once he likes someone, he quickly shows his loyalty. He can jump on your knees, snuggle up and confidently ask for pats even during a walk. For people he knows, he is extremely sensitive and devoted. He greets familiar volunteers from afar with great enthusiasm. He communicates well and clearly shows what he likes and what he doesn't with other dogs. Nevertheless, he feels best as an only dog - he is possessive and becomes very attached to his person. We do not recommend him for a home with children or other dogs. Markiz needs a calm, structured life. Sudden changes or chaos in his environment cause him anxiety and take away his confidence. He finds himself very well in an urban environment, drives well in a car and behaves like a model passenger. Sticks, balls, and water are his small joys, but his greatest joy is a person who plays with him and shares this carefree moment. Markiz has already had a home, so we know he maintains cleanliness and can be left alone. He is a dog with great potential. Appropriately guided, he will become a faithful, joyful, and stable companion. For Markiz, we are looking for an experienced caregiver who understands canine emotions, can read body language, and provides him with a sense of security. He needs a patient, calm, and consistent person who respects his needs and allows him to trust at his own pace. If you are looking for a dog with character who will give you his whole heart once he feels safe - Markiz may be just the one you've been waiting for.

Nie polecamy go do domu z dziećmi ani innymi psami. To pies z ogromnym potencjałem.

About Markiz

What life with Markiz looks like

Markiz is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Resource guarding tendencies, requires slow introductions, prefers to be only dog

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Markiz, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Markiz?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Markiz on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Markiz if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Markiz already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Markiz isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Markiz and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
