Marlies

Female · Senior · 11 years

- reserved - shy, timid - calm, gentle - does not like to be handled - uses the scratching post - house-trained - not rehomed to dogs - not rehomed to children and toddlers - needs a quiet environment Marlies came to us as an intake at the animal shelter. Now, we are searching for a quiet female cat Pat*innen. Marlies is a quiet and sensitive female cat. New situations and unfamiliar people quickly unsettle her, causing her to initially show herself as very reserved, shy, and timid. She needs time to build trust and feels most comfortable in a quiet environment where she can learn everything at her own pace. She is a rather quiet animal that values its peace. Physical closeness is not something Marlies particularly enjoys – she is only reluctantly handled and needs people who respect her boundaries and give her the necessary space. For Marlies, we are searching for a very quiet home with little chaos. She will not be rehomed to dogs, and a household with children or toddlers is also not an option for her, as she needs a relaxed and stable environment to feel safe. Marlies has some health issues. She suffers from high blood pressure, thyroid problems, anemia (iron deficiency), and has to constantly fight with vomiting. For all three conditions, she receives permanent medication and is under veterinary care. Especially important for her are fixed routines and a reliable schedule, as they give her a sense of security and help her to calm down. Since Marlies is now medically stable, she can now begin her search for a permanent home. In the meantime, she is happy to have Pat*innen who support her and contribute to securing her care and treatment. With the necessary quietness, patience, and support, Marlies has the chance to find stability and security step by step. If you would like to support Marlies, we are happy to receive Pat*innen who financially support the little mouse.

About Marlies

What life with Marlies looks like

Marlies is a medium-sized senior cat waiting at Tierheim Hamburg in Hamburg.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

Note from the shelter: Requires ongoing medication for high blood pressure, thyroid problems, anemia, and chronic vomiting. Needs quiet environment and routine.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Marlies, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Marlies?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Hamburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Marlies on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Marlies if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Hamburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Marlies already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Marlies isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Hamburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Marlies and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
