Mars

Mixed Breed · Male · Kitten

Male stray/more likely outdoor Born approx. 2022 Bengal Neutered yes/no In shelter since 04.08.2026 ________________________ We test every cat via rapid test for FIV ("cat aids", info here!) and FeLV ("cat leukemia", info here!) and clarify the status. We inform here about the risk of FIP disease ("peritonitis", info here!). ________________________ The handsome Mars came to us because he was apparently abandoned. He was unneutered in Erdhausen-Gladenbach and was looking for a connection, so he was brought to our shelter. We are now looking for a loving place for him that will do him justice. Mars is breed-typically active and very vocal. He is very attached and enjoys all attention. Basically, he is happy about joint activities, is naturally playful, likes to cuddle and is very present with his environment, also likes to be in the spotlight. He would be an excellent fit for people who are not looking for a cat that "walks by" but who want to deal with him a lot and try clicker training, for example. Mars unfortunately shows himself to be confrontational and irritated with other cats again and again, so we have to assume that he has not had good socialization. He is jealous of food and attention and will certainly be happier in a home without cats in the same household. Unfortunately, Mars contracted ringworm in the shelter, he is currently still in treatment, which seems to be taking effect. He could move to a new home at the end of November. Since he suffers greatly from the animal shelter situation and because of his incompatibility with conspecifics, he can hardly move into our placement area, so we are already looking for a home for the handsome tomcat. More detailed information on ringworm can be discussed if interested. Mars is otherwise healthy, he had increased tartar at arrival in the shelter, which was surgically removed during a dental sanitation. No teeth had to be pulled. Bengal cats usually make special demands on their families: they have a very pronounced need for movement and exploration and react sensitively to change. We are therefore looking for a home that has seriously dealt with the breed and is enthusiastic about their nature and their nature and can reliably respond to Mars. We are looking for a home with outdoor access in a cat-friendly environment for Mars. Perfect would be a secure garden, alternatively the neighborhood should be safe and accommodating for him. We very much hope that the handsome and friendly Mars will soon head for a safe harbor where he will be lovingly cared for! ________________________ (Stand 29.10.2026) (Click on the pictures to see them in full size!) The description reflects the current status, but we reserve the right to make changes or reassessments. It can always happen that an animal shows or develops differently both here in the shelter and in the new home due to changed circumstances. Tags: Single cats, Outdoor access, Cats 1-5 years

About Mars

What life with Mars looks like

Mars is a kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Marburg in Marburg.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mars, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mars?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Marburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mars on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mars if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Marburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Mars already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mars isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Marburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mars and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
