adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Marte has found her forever home! Her story: 72766 Reutlingen. The pretty black and white Marte is currently in her second spring in her foster home and is warming up every day. Completely dirty and severely undernourished, she arrived in Germany. She must have lived on the streets her whole life and never really experienced care. After a bath and thorough fur care, Marte immediately adapted to her new life and is enjoying it to the fullest! Originally, Marte came from the public shelter in Bistrita, Romania. There, she lived under very unsightly conditions in a cramped pen among many other dogs. She is very curious and smart and immediately understands what she needs to do. She loves long, lively walks very much. While she still sniffs around very little, that can change in the coming weeks as she becomes more settled. She scans the entire environment while walking, nothing escapes her notice. At her age, she is still very fit. At home, Marte is a very calm female dog who also likes to rest and sleeps after a nice walk. Marte's nickname is Molly, to which she already responds. She is still a bit cautious around strangers, but if she knows a person, she is incredibly cuddly and can never get enough, demanding cuddles even. She can already be left alone for a while, and car rides are no problem for her, and she runs perfectly on foot. Even next to the dog carrier. She has never pulled on the leash and would therefore be an ideal companion for older people who also like to go for walks but are looking for a dog that walks well on the leash. At almost 9-10 years old, she is still very fit. Marte is about 53cm tall and weighs 19kg. Marte had a small dental operation in Germany because she had an infection and couldn't eat properly. Four teeth were removed. The missing teeth, two canines and two others, do not affect her. Since then, she has been like a new dog, eating well, and is a real ray of sunshine. Our Marte is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. She has an EU pet passport and can be adopted. Do you give your heart and a loving home to Marte? Many thanks Fietsenfee! You have given Marte her name!

Vielen Dank Fietsenfee! Du hast Marte ihren Namen geschenkt!

About Marte

What life with Marte looks like

Marte is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Marte, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Marte?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Marte on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Marte if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Marte already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Marte isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Marte and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
