Martin

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Looking for a caring basket! The seven-year-old Martin arrived at our Spanish partner animal shelter in very poor condition in January. He was just skin and bones. Martin also had an old fracture in his hind leg. A test for leishmaniasis came back positive. We don't know how long Martin's suffering had already lasted before he came into the care of our Spanish animal protection colleagues. In the shelter, the poor dog probably experienced care and attention for the first time in a long while. Martin's wounds have clearly healed. Outdoors, he enjoys walks and is cheerful and lively. He gets excited about other dogs depending on his sympathy, but is generally very friendly and can be easily calmed during encounters. He enjoys being petted. Martin's wounds should be treated carefully to avoid causing him pain. Martin is a friendly dog who initially keeps a cautious distance from people. However, after a short time, they may catch a first glimpse into his little dog heart. In the shelter, Martin shows himself to be sociable with his fellow dogs. Martin should ideally exchange the shelter for a family environment as soon as possible. The friendly male dog needs rest and sufficient care to get back on his paws. Therefore, we are looking for a caring home for Martin as soon as possible. This home should give him the opportunity to arrive there at his own pace. The establishment of a relationship and trust structure should be the top priority, along with the necessary medical care. Then all further developmental steps can be taken in a good mutual relationship. We will gladly advise you on the topic of leishmaniasis on our information page. Adopting a rescue dog always means taking on a special responsibility and can also become a challenge. The dogs bring a backpack of past experiences or unlearned situations with them and need time to adjust to their new life. If you have a serious interest in adopting Martin, please contact the responsible adoption officer. We would also be very happy about the provision of a foster home. The contact details can be found below in the text. Here goes Martin's video.

About Martin

What life with Martin looks like

Martin is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Martin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Martin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Martin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Martin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Martin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Martin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Martin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
