Martino

Male Β· Adult Β· 8 years

Martino is a nearly 7-year-old mixed breed who has been waiting in our shelter for almost four years. That's far too long. His life began on the streets, with scars on his body. We don't know exactly what he has experienced, but it's clear he has had few good experiences with other dogs. Yet Martino has retained his friendly nature. He greets people openly and warmly, even if he doesn't know them well. You don't get his full trust for free – you have to earn it – but if he gives it to you, you get a loyal companion for life. Martino walks nicely on a leash and behaves calmly around other dogs during walks. In his kennel – and especially around his food – he prefers no dog companionship. A home where he is the only dog and where he gets peace and space would be perfect for him. He has a playful side, likes to play and thoroughly enjoys a good walk. He prefers not to cuddle at first, but give him time and you'll see how loving he really is. Because he can be overwhelmed by noise, we are looking for a place for Martino without young children (under 12). This sweet boy has had enough. Now he deserves a quiet, stable home where he can enjoy life – finally!

NLΒ·Show original

About Martino

What life with Martino looks like

Martino is an adult dog waiting at ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) in Spain.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡ΈAdopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee. Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Martino, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Martino?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Martino on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Martino if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Martino already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Martino isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Martino and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
