Adopt Mascha

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

Profile: Age: Born around 2017 Gender: Female Spayed: Yes Temperament: Very insecure, cannot be touched Size: Approximately 50 cm In shelter since: 2020, rescued from public culling Your dear people! Not long ago, I was cruelly caught by dog catchers on the street and subsequently brought to a public shelter. What awaits them there is hard to put into words. Overcrowded cages, filth everywhere, scarce food, dirty water, and people who would rather see them dead. A terrible experience that leaves its mark. Also on me… So I hide in my hut the most, especially when the bipeds show up. Even though the people here are friendly and kind, it is very hard for me to trust them. Being touched is a clear no-go for me. Can I still hope for a miracle? Well, as they say, "If you give up today, you'll never know if you could have made it tomorrow." Perhaps, just perhaps, one day the right person for me will come along. Someone with experience with anxious dogs, with immense patience and perseverance, without children, and with a securely fenced garden in a quiet, peaceful environment. I hope so, because then I could actually imagine opening up to someone. If you are interested in Mascha, please fill out our interest form () or write us an email or a message on Facebook. Mascha is ready to travel and can travel to Germany with the next transport. Our dogs travel legally with Traces. Traces refers to the database system that monitors the entire animal transport within the EU. The dogs travel neutered (if old enough), vaccinated, microchipped, and dewormed, and have an EU passport. Additionally, for dogs over 12 months of age, a rapid test for the following Mediterranean diseases is conducted before travel arrangements: Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichiosis, Dirofilariasis, and leishmaniasis. Ulrich D. has taken the paternity for Mascha and ensures a full plate. Many thanks on behalf of the dogs!

About Mascha

What life with Mascha looks like

Mascha is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Seelen für Seelchen e.V. in Alfter.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mascha, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mascha?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Seelen für Seelchen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mascha on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mascha if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Seelen für Seelchen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mascha already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mascha isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Seelen für Seelchen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mascha and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
