Update 25.05.2022 - Mathilda has moved into her new home! Update 05.05.2022: Mathilda needs people who are familiar with her breed and its behavior. She is currently going through a phase where she is testing her limits a lot. Therefore, she needs a loving but still consistent upbringing and a person who gives her clear rules. ———————————————————— Hello, I am the wild Mathilda and came here as a found animal. My caretakers think I was abandoned because my owners were overwhelmed. I probably came from abroad, as I have a Bulgarian chip and my ears are cropped. I think people are great, and being young, I am very playful and have a lot of silly ideas in my head. I need clear and consistently enforced rules in my new home, as I like to test my limits all the time. I also love other dogs, but when it comes to food, the friendship ends. I keep that for myself and also show that I do not like sharing with another dog. Since I am still so young, I can definitely learn to share. I also need to learn the proper way to interact with other dogs — my caretakers claim I behave rather disrespectfully towards other dogs, but I am already attending puppy classes. I am learning a lot. I can also already do some basic commands. In my new home, I should get a task, as I would be under-challenged with just going for walks. I dream of one day looking after your sheep, goats, or other animals. I wish for a house with a garden and a family connection in my new home, and the best would be one that already has experience with herding dog breeds. If you think you have a suitable place for me, then please make an appointment and get to know me.

Eure Mathilda

About Mathilda

What life with Mathilda looks like

Mathilda is a adult kangal dog waiting at Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. in Remagen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mathilda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mathilda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mathilda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mathilda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mathilda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mathilda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mathilda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
