Matilda

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

Matilda, born around 2022, is about 49 cm tall and a charming female dog with particularly cute ears. In mid-October, Matilda was finally able to leave the Turceni kill shelter behind. We don't know what she experienced before then. Yet despite her past, she shows herself to be a friendly and gentle dog who remains open to people. Matilda is still somewhat shy and prefers to observe new situations cautiously at first. Nevertheless, she let visitors she didn't know touch and stroke her, without moving away or wanting to flee. This shows that she wants to build trust and is ready to engage with people. Matilda is now safe and can experience for the first time what security and care feel like. For this sweet dog, we are looking for a sensitive foster home or a loving family where she can settle in at her own pace. People with patience and a big heart will find in Matilda a loyal companion who will thaw a little more every day and give her trust. Who would like to show Matilda that her future can be full of love, security and wonderful shared experiences? Matilda is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and will be rehomed with a protection contract after a positive pre-screening. Departure to Germany possible from 13.11.2026. General note about our animals: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can continually reassess their behavior and development. These personal impressions help us greatly in presenting each individual dog as accurately as possible. However, we would like to point out that a dog in a new environment – with new people, new routines and new impressions – can also show itself differently. This is completely normal and part of any process of change. Many dogs even open up more quickly in a home and show sides that were not visible at the shelter. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee of every behavior in a new environment. They are meant to provide guidance and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter – and what potential lies within it. We are convinced that with patience, understanding and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and continue to develop positively.

About Matilda

What life with Matilda looks like

Matilda is an adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Matilda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Matilda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Matilda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Matilda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Matilda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Matilda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Matilda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
