ProfileAge: born around October 2025. Gender: male. Neutered: noCharacter: very friendly, people-oriented, puppy-like playfulSize: growing, remaining smallSince in the shelter: February 2026Family: Siblings Fenya, Rubin, Samu & (Mom Jördis - already adopted)Hello! I'm Mats. A little dog boy from Romania. Together with my mom and my three siblings we were found in the middle of the city. Fortunately, there was a kind Romanian woman who took great care of us. She gave us protection, food, love and a small piece of security. Unfortunately, we couldn't stay there forever... and so we had to go somewhere else. The team from Germany picked us up personally. The car ride to the shelter was incredibly exciting for us little mice. Everything was new. Everything smelled different. We didn't know what was happening. And it was already noticeable there how different the four of us actually are. We look very similar visually, my fur is lighter than that of my siblings... but each of us has our own unique little character. I think right away people noticed how much I need closeness. Even in the car, I took every opportunity to crawl onto someone's lap. I just wanted to cuddle. Just feel that someone was there. That I wasn't alone. And if there was no person to cuddle, I immediately looked for my siblings. We support each other. We fall asleep snuggled closely together and watch over each other. Because together, the world feels a little less frightening. The first moments in the shelter were very strange for us. The noises. The unfamiliar environment. The feeling of suddenly not being at home anywhere. But we helped each other and cautiously explored our new area. Always together. Always as a small team. Our mom was already adopted. And the next siblings are already on the adoption list. Of course, I am happy for them... but deep in my little heart I have big fears. Fear of being left alone. Fear of having to grow up in the shelter without my family. Fear that no one will see me. And yet I really wish for my own home. A home in Germany where I can finally arrive. I dream of a soft basket. Of hands that stroke me. Of people where I can feel safe. I want to learn how beautiful life can be. Want to take walks, play in the grass, maybe discover autumn leaves for the first time or set small paw prints in the snow in winter. And most of all, I wish for someone with whom I can be close. Because that's all I really need: Love. Closeness. And the feeling of finally arriving. Interested? If you are interested in Mats, please fill out our interest form () or send us an email at or a message via Facebook. Mats is ready for adoption and can travel to Germany with the next transport. Our dogs travel legally with Traces. Traces refers to the database system used to monitor all animal traffic within the EU. The dogs are neutered (if old enough), vaccinated, microchipped and dewormed and have an EU passport. Furthermore, a rapid test for the following Mediterranean diseases is carried out for dogs over 12 months before departure: Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichiosis, Dirofilariasis and Leishmaniasis. Ulrike W. has taken on the sponsorship for Mats and thus ensures a filled bowl. Many thanks on behalf of the dogs!

SteckbriefAlter: ca. Oktober 2025 geboren. Geschlecht: männlich. Kastriert: neinCharakter: sehr freundlich, Menschen-bezogen, Welpen-typisch verspieltGröße: im Wachstum, klein bleibendIm Shelter seit: Februar 2026Verwandtschaft: Geschwister Fenya, (Rubin, Samu & Mama Jördis – bereits ausgereist)Hallo! About Mats W

What life with Mats W looks like

Mats W is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Seelen für Seelchen e.V. in Alfter.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mats W, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mats W?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Seelen für Seelchen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mats W on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mats W if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Seelen für Seelchen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mats W already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mats W isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Seelen für Seelchen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mats W and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
