Adopt Mausi

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 12 years

EKH, 10/12 years old, female Mausi has likely not experienced much beauty in her life. She was brought to our animal shelter from a feeding station by our board member and big cat lover Tizia. There, the older female cat slowly began to cautiously allow human contact – and it was clear: Mausi desperately needed help. Upon her arrival, she was in a pitiful state. Her fur was extensively matted, likely due to a tar-like or similar substance she must have gotten into. For Mausi to regain her well-being, she must be shaved at a veterinary clinic. At the animal shelter, Mausi has so far shown herself to be very shy and reserved. Closeness is difficult for her, and she needs people who have no expectations of her and can give her all the time in the world to build trust. But we are sure: behind her cautious nature lies a cat that someday wants to understand how wonderful a safe home can be. For our old female cat, we wish for a quiet home with understanding people who are patient, have hearts, and a loving gaze for the small progress. A cozy dog bed, regular food, space, outdoor access after acclimation, and people who can simply let her be – more than likely, Mausi doesn't need much more to gradually settle in. Who will give Mausi the chance to spend her twilight years in safety and security? Mausi – gentle soul seeks people with patience and a heart Mausi has likely not experienced much beauty in her life. About Mausi

What life with Mausi looks like

Mausi is a small senior mixed breed cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Whm. u. Umg. e.V. in Weinheim.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mausi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mausi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Whm. u. Umg. e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mausi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mausi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Whm. u. Umg. e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mausi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mausi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Whm. u. Umg. e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mausi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
