Max & Claire

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 15 years

Dachshund mix Max, born 2011, came to the animal shelter as a private surrender and shows a quite cozy nature. A nice walk in the sunshine, followed by a treat, lying around and lounging away from wild, athletic activities is his pure happiness. However, he needs the human to earn his trust and acceptance. Because: Max initially looks at strangers critically and decides for himself who he likes and who he doesn't. One thing is certain: the veterinarian and cars definitely don't belong to him and mean hell for Max. We are looking for loving, yet consistent people for our cozy sensitive guy, who can gain Max's trust, but also show this stubborn Dachshund breed his limits. Although Max shows very affectionate and even playful when he trusts, he shouldn't be placed with small children due to his insecurity. By the way, Max lives in our shelter with a female dog named Claire, whom he has grown very fond of. Max is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and generally housebroken. Here is the application form! © Tierschutzverein Brandenburg an der Havel e.V. Terrier mix girl Claire arrived here as a stray and knows almost nothing of this world. She appears extremely reserved and touch-shy towards people. Her behavior seems ritualized and strongly oriented towards food, but not towards humans. Only very slowly does the small timid lady make eye contact, but she moves stealthily and in alert position. Claire has never known a leash and although we train here often, she reacts with panic. However, the approximately 2015 born Claire is well socialized with other dogs and communicates within the species without problems. Since the animal shelter cannot and must not be a permanent solution for Claire, we are urgently seeking experienced, sovereign, and yet loving pack leaders who can give Claire security, allow her to be as independent as she is, and gradually work through what has been missed so far with her. Claire loves her pack and definitely needs at least one sovereign dog by her side. This dog should and may show Claire that one can trust humans. © Tierschutzverein Brandenburg an der Havel e.V. | Impressum | Datenschutz

DE·Show original

Dackel-Mischling Max, geb. | Impressum | Datenschutz

About Max & Claire

What life with Max & Claire looks like

Max & Claire is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Brandenburg an der Havel in Brandenburg.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Max & Claire, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Max & Claire?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Brandenburg an der Havel handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Max & Claire on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Max & Claire if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Brandenburg an der Havel will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Max & Claire already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Max & Claire isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Brandenburg an der Havel early rather than rehoming privately; they know Max & Claire and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
