Max

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Please help Max by sharing this page! Max is a 9-year-old Crossbreed boy who's been in the care of Animal Rescue Cymru (ARC) in Cardigan, West Wales since his owner sadly passed away. He's a people-loving dog and is very stressed in kennels so he's available to either adopt or foster. Max wants to be the only pet at home and to be walked in quiet areas where there are not many other dogs. It's unknown how he'd be with resident children but he is large and lively, so definitely not little ones who could be knocked over. He does love people and is a playful, affectionate boy. He wears a Halti head collar when out on walks as he can be strong on the lead but he is attentive and will slow to your pace if you remind him. He's just so happy to be out with someone! One volunteer dog walker said of Max, "I've been walking him on and off since about December. He's gotten better and better, not that he was ever bad, he's just a big guy with a lot of energy and strength in those legs. He just needs to be told to slow down a little bit every now and then and he listens very well… he's also very affectionate." About Max

What life with Max looks like

Max is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at The Oldies Club in United Kingdom.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Max, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Max?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Oldies Club handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Max on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Max if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Oldies Club will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Max already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Max isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Oldies Club early rather than rehoming privately; they know Max and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
