Adopt Max

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Kleine Man Max For this little fellow, who is almost 4 years old, the shelter was initially something he was quite impressed with. But man, we are so proud of the little guy. What a huge amount of energy and resilience he shows. Where he displayed a lot of tension in the first few days (which is completely understandable) and sometimes was quite fierce, we see that our predictability is paying off. Nothing wanting, no eye contact, no conversations, and definitely no petting or cuddle sessions! Max decides when it's his time for interaction. And wonder of wonders, we see that he does it. He comes curiously to your nose or there's still some yummy dried chicken, and during walks, he makes easy eye contact without getting stressed. He makes happy hops, has an eye for his surroundings in a relaxed manner, and lies beautifully rolling in the grass. We see then a happy little fellow. We are truly proud of him. He still is a dog with a backpack and isn't suitable for many busy home situations but we see already that he is very trainable if you give him the time to trust you. Nothing in a rush, step by step, and then it will definitely work. We do not place him with other dogs, cats, and children. But we would like him with people who know the Terrier behavior. He wants sooo badly. Come on, good boy, we will also find a nice place for you, Max is a mix reutje with an estimated birthdate of May 20, 2022, and a height of approximately 35 centimeters.

About Max

What life with Max looks like

Max is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at DOC Oldenzaal in Netherlands.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Max, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Max?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. DOC Oldenzaal handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Max on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Max if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — DOC Oldenzaal will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Max already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Max isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with DOC Oldenzaal early rather than rehoming privately; they know Max and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
