Max

Male · Adult · 6 years

Meet our lovely boy, Max! If you’re looking for a fun-loving companion who’s always up for an adventure, this boy could be the one for you! He loves going for walks, enjoys a splash about in the water, and is a clever lad who knows to wait before crossing the road. His favourite game is fetch, and he’ll happily bring his ball right to your feet to let you know he’s ready for another throw! Max is a very sweet boy who loves a bit of reassurance from his people. He can get wonderfully wiggly and excited when meeting new people, showing just how much he enjoys making new friends. He’s also a great traveller in the car, making him a lovely companion for little adventures further afield. He loves to go in the car to go to places where there might not be so many other dogs or traffic. Max is looking for a home with experienced owners with children of upper secondary school age or older, who are able to work with him through some ongoing training. He’d like to be the only pet in the home, where he can enjoy all the attention. He could also potentially be left alone for a couple of hours a day. Could you be the one to give this lovely boy the loving home he deserves? AWE licence number 13090 by West Lothian Council.

About Max

What life with Max looks like

Max is an adult dog waiting at Dogs Trust West Calder in West Calder.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Max, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Max?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust West Calder handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Max on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Max if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust West Calder will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Max already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Max isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust West Calder early rather than rehoming privately; they know Max and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
