Maximus

English Bulldog · Unknown

Maximus is friendly towards people, but mostly rather indifferent. Sometimes, he can be a bit skeptical about strangers approaching him head-on. When it comes to walking, it often seems like he doesn't really care who is on the other end of the leash. Unfortunately, Maximus gets distracted very easily by all sorts of things. A lot of work needs to be done on his focus on people, his calmness, and, above all, his impulse control. With fellow animals, Maximus is generally very compatible and fits well into dog groups. However, the dogs should be physically matched to him, as he tends to see small dogs as prey. Walks are generally not problematic, and he usually walks well on the leash. However, sometimes he thinks that if he wants to go somewhere, the person holding the leash should come with him, and then you have to hold back to prevent him from pulling you around. And there's one thing about Maximus that cannot be denied: he has a strong prey drive. He gets excited not only by sight when he spots something but also uses his nose effectively. Here, it's important for the person to always be attentive to recognize what is catching his interest and to react accordingly. We are looking for dog-experienced people for Maximus who can provide him with a nice forever home with confident leadership, where his little issues can still be worked on. Maximus still has a lot to learn, so attending dog training classes or working with a dog trainer, especially to prepare for the behavioral assessment, is highly recommended. If there are children in the new home, it would be better if they are already in their teenage years, so they can be physically matched to him. Cats or small animals should preferably not be present. If you are interested, we look forward to a meaningful email with your phone number.

About Maximus

What life with Maximus looks like

Maximus is a adult english bulldog dog waiting at Tierheim Troisdorf in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maximus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maximus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Troisdorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maximus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maximus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Troisdorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maximus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maximus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Troisdorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maximus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
