Maya

American Staffordshire Terrier · Female · Adult · 5 years

Maya is a lovely 5-year-old Amstaff LOF female who arrived at the animal shelter after her owner was evicted from their home. Despite this change in her life, Maya remains an incredibly gentle, affectionate, and high-quality dog. ❤️ She loves everyone! She is very pleasant with people she knows and strangers alike and readily seeks out pets. She has lived with children before and has always been gentle with them, as long as they are respectful towards her. On walks, Maya is a real little gem: she walks calmly without pulling on the leash and enjoys her walks at her own pace. She also loves to play and, when given the opportunity, to swim! Regarding her fellow dogs, Maya can accept some dogs during walks and seems to be more comfortable with males. At the shelter, she does not pay particular attention to cats and does not show any reaction to their presence. Maya lived in an apartment and knows how to stay calm when alone. She could therefore perfectly adapt to apartment life, provided that her needs for outings and exercise are respected. Currently overweight, Maya will need to gradually regain a more suitable figure through quality food and regular exercise. Nothing better for her than beautiful walks and playful moments to take care of her health while enjoying life! ❤️ Maya is a category dog. Her adoption is therefore subject to administrative procedures and specific legal conditions. Prospective adopters must be able to comply with them. Maya deserves to find a loving, responsible family today who is ready to offer her a beautiful life. She is an endearing, easy-going, and loving dog who is waiting for one thing: to finally settle down.

About Maya

What life with Maya looks like

Maya is a adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at SPA Colmar in France.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA Colmar handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA Colmar will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA Colmar early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
