Maya

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

Maya is a stunningly beautiful, gentle female dog who does not rush up to every visitor with a wagging tail. She belongs to the quieter souls who observe before they open up. But once she gains trust, she shows her soft, deeply loving side – and her food motivation helps her quickly win the hearts of new people. Visit update 20.08.: Maya is delighted by the visit from Germany and the great treats she gladly takes from the hand. What a wonderful dog. At 9 years old, she should finally get a chance and not have to spend another winter in Romania. Who will finally see this wonderful dog? Currently, Maya lives in a harmonious group of three, where lots of lying close together and mutual affection are a matter of course. The three dogs treat each other unusually lovingly, and it is exactly this need for closeness that Maya will bring to her future home. People who can offer her a calm, cosy environment – preferably with a friendly first dog – will find a loyal companion in her. Important to know: Maya is not a Golden Retriever mix, even though her gentle gaze might suggest it. And at around eight years old, she is no longer one of the youngest – but she belongs to the dogs who love with a deep, mature tenderness. Maya is looking for people who see her quiet nature, give her time, and show her that reserve is not an obstacle but a tender beginning. Maya is neutered and will be vaccinated, microchipped, and placed with a protection contract after a positive preliminary check. General note about our animals: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can continually reassess their behavior and development. These personal impressions help us greatly in conveying as accurate a picture as possible of each individual dog. However, we would like to point out that a dog may show itself differently in a new environment – with new people, new routines, and new impressions. This is entirely normal and part of any process of change. Many dogs even open up faster at home and show sides that were not visible at the shelter at all. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee of any behavior in the new environment. They are meant to provide orientation and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter – and what potential lies within it. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and continue to develop positively.

About Maya

What life with Maya looks like

Maya is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Maya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
