✨ Maya D2026-38 — A Gentle Soul Looking for a Calm Forever Home ✨ 🐾 5-Year-Old Turkish Mix Breed 🐾 Neutered 🐾 Microchipped 🐾 First vaccinations complete 🐾 Up to date with flea & worm treatment 📍 Fostered in Llantrisant Maya is a beautiful, quiet girl with the sweetest nature. After everything she’s experienced, she is now discovering how lovely life can be — soft beds, gentle fusses, tummy rubs, sunny gardens, and peaceful walks with people she trusts. She absolutely adores humans and is happiest close to her people, enjoying strokes, kind words, and cuddles. Maya greets visitors nicely, enjoys meeting people out on walks, and is very good at the vets too. Although playful in her own gentle way, Maya is still learning what toys are and tends to entertain herself quietly. She loves her walks and gets very excited when her harness comes out. She walks well on a harness and enjoys exploring the world at her own pace, either alone or alongside a calm dog companion. At home, Maya is wonderfully clean and has had no accidents at all. She will politely ask to go outside when she needs to and loves spending time in the garden, especially rolling in the grass or snoozing in the sunshine. At night she prefers her own comfy bed away from the other dogs and sleeps quietly right through until morning. Maya can feel nervous around other dogs at first and worries about them taking her food, so she is fed separately to help her feel secure. Once finished eating, she is relaxed around others near her bowl and she always takes treats gently before carrying them off to enjoy in peace. Because of this, Maya would suit a calm and understanding home where she can continue to build confidence at her own speed. She could live as an only dog, which may suit her best, or with a calm, older, larger dog who will respect her space and not overwhelm her. She is not keen on small dogs. Older, quieter children who understand gentle dogs may be considered. Maya is looking for patient huma

About Maya

What life with Maya looks like

Maya is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Friends of Animals Wales in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Friends of Animals Wales handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Friends of Animals Wales will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Friends of Animals Wales early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
