adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Maya has found her home! Her story: Ulknudel Maya has been waiting in her foster home for her permanent family. Is it the open gaze? The friendly nature? The soft fur? The joy of life? Whatever it is, Maya just makes everyone happy! Unceasingly! If Maya could speak, one might hear sentences like: "Hey, human! Can you please pet me again and for a really long time? That feels sooo good!" Or: "Where should we go? That way? Great! Or here? Also great! Oh, it's just so nice with you!" Or: "Is it okay, human, if I lie down by your feet?" Since recently being in the foster family, whoever meets Maya is greeted with friendliness. Maya seems to exude a natural and completely non-aggressive authority towards fellow animals. Perhaps she acquired this because she already raised a litter of puppies in the shelter in Romania – who knows… On walks, she shows a slight prey drive, but due to her strong human connection, it's not a real problem. Nevertheless, she will need training to internalize what "your human" wants from her. While she also enjoys being rewarded with treats, such as dog training classes-ABC, should be easily learned. At the current time, Maya can't yet handle extended walks. In the Romanian shelter, there's little running room, and her muscles and joints need to be strengthened through gentle training. But that's just a matter of patience. For Maya, we are looking for a home that offers a bit of variety. Of course: if there's too much chaos, she should have retreat options. But as the people-friendly one she is, it won't be difficult for her to fit into a loving family team. Our honeybee is about 40 cm tall and weighs around 18 kg, and she is just about three years old. Maya is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, treated for fleas, and dewormed. In search of a family, there is a small obstacle to overcome. Maya has a shortened tail and is therefore looking for a home outside of Switzerland. Whom will Maya infect with her good mood in the future? Many thanks to Veronica D., who gave Maya a beautiful name and thus a personal identity! As of: 04.10.

Stand: 04.10.2024

About Maya

What life with Maya looks like

Maya is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
