Maya

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 20 years

Maya is waiting... There is no opportunity or possibility for her to play in the green, no toys, no grass to sniff, little fun, no person who strokes her. There is only the company of the other patient dogs in the same longing waiting situation. When will the door to the kennel open to pick up the lovely Maya for her journey to her beautiful future home? Future home? It is a heartfelt wish, because the large animal shelter where Maya has had to live since she was eight weeks old is not a real home. We want to do everything possible to find Maya's people, those who are compatible with her and where she can be happy. She is an especially beautiful dog with her sand-colored fur, white legs, and her very beautiful, finely drawn tri-color face (sand, black, and white). Her eyes look very loving and somewhat sad. One wants to take Maya into one's arms to encourage her: "Maya, everything will be fine for you... just a little patience. We will find the people for you who can give you love and a sense of belonging." Patiently, Maya is certainly. Maya knows little. She is still shy, uncertain, and cautious. She is never angry or aggressive. She is a loving, contented, adaptable young dog. She respects the leash, as she does not know it. What is missing is training with a loving, patient, reliable person who shows her that learning is a lot of fun and a leash is something great because then you can explore the world together. But until this goal, there is still a long way to go. First, love, security, time to build trust... and a cozy dog bed to relax and feel at home in her new home in a quiet environment is essential. Naturally, a fenced garden where she can run freely and explore her surroundings independently would be particularly nice. A friendly new companion would help her settle in, but she can also manage with loving support from her new two-legged friends. © 2006-2024 by Tierschutzverein Europa e.V. - All rights reserved

DE·Show original

Maya wartet… © 2006-2024 by Tierschutzverein Europa e.V. - All rights reserved

About Maya

What life with Maya looks like

Maya is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
