Maya

Podenco · Female · Puppy

Podenco-Collie Mix Maya—Ready for Her Big Adventure Young Maya is waiting together with her brother Otto at a Spanish animal shelter, eagerly anticipating her big chance. Her father is believed to have been a Podenco, and her mother a Collie-mix female—quite an exciting mix that surely makes her curious, intelligent, and full of energy, eager to explore life with enthusiasm. Like every young dog, Maya longs to discover the world, play, romp around, and learn something new every single day. But an animal shelter is no place for a young pup to grow up. Maya dreams of people who will show her—with love, patience, and clear guidance—just how wonderful a safe and secure dog life can be. Of course, as a rescue dog, Maya comes with her own little baggage and still has much to learn about the basics of doggy life. With the right support, she’ll undoubtedly blossom into a loyal companion. Right now, all Maya needs is one thing: people who’ll give her their heart—whether in a forever home or through loving foster care. If you believe Maya is the perfect match for you, we’d love to hear from you! Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the responsible adoption counselor and give this young pup the chance for a happy dog life. Click here to watch Maya’s video!

About Maya

What life with Maya looks like

Maya is a large puppy/kitten podenco dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
