Adopt Mayla

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 3 years

Mayla (3 years old) is an incredibly sweet lady who has had her fair share of life's challenges. She was found with a terrible bone fracture and only a partial amputation of a leg was possible. After a difficult surgery, she was allowed to recover in a foster family where she received all the love and time she needed. And she really, really needed it! She is very loving, calm, but also shy and a bit fearful. As she gets to know you, that fearful behavior becomes less. She loves to lie next to you on the couch and enjoys being stroked on her head and under her chin. When you touch the rest of her body, she jumps up and then goes to her bed. A minute later, she comes back to lie next to you again. She likes to spend the whole day lying next to you on the couch. She also likes to lie on the top edge of the couch to look outside. When she hears you coming home, she is already waiting behind the door. She enjoys playing with a fishing rod and balls. She is an indoor cat. She would be very vulnerable outside with only three legs and would be scared of all the sounds she hears. She can walk well on three legs but sometimes she still wobbles. She can run better. She now turns up her nose at meat, preferring mostly just the juice. (Felix sauce time) Due to her shyness, we do not place her with small children. How she interacts with other animals is unknown.

Read original (nl)

About Mayla

What life with Mayla looks like

Mayla is a small young adult mixed breed animal waiting at Stichting Dierenasiel Gorinchem in Netherlands.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Mayla far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mayla, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mayla?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting Dierenasiel Gorinchem handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mayla on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mayla if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting Dierenasiel Gorinchem will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mayla already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mayla isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting Dierenasiel Gorinchem early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mayla and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
