Maz and Beto

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

by Cattery | Sep 13, 2026 | Cats, Female, Liverpool, Male, Cats, Female, Liverpool, Male These two sweethearts unfortunately came from a hoarding situation with several other cats going into different rescues. Maz is female and she’s the tuxedo (black and white) cat and Beto is male and is the tabby. Due to their previous living situation, they are a bit unsocialised. Maz spends quite a lot of her time hiding away and can be a little hissy but she has shown signs that this can change when she goes to her new home. She will come out for treats and has given some slow blinks. Because of the environment along with her prior one, she is a bit overwhelmed and scared. Beto is less bothered and seems quite a bit more desensitised. He is quite happy to hang out with people so we are hoping his confidence will help Maz out. Ideally, we would like to rehome them as a pair as they do seem to enjoy each other’s company but they can also go separate. A child free home or a home with older kids who will give them time and space is ideal. They would do best in a quiet home as Maz startles quite easily. They have no experience with dogs and we believe they would do best in a home with no dogs. They are used to other cats and it is possible they could be rehomed to a place with other cats. As they had access to outdoors in their previous home, they will require outdoor access. Exclusive merchandise available direct from the rescue. About Maz and Beto

What life with Maz and Beto looks like

Maz and Beto is a young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Freshfields Animal Rescue in Liverpool.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maz and Beto, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maz and Beto?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Freshfields Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maz and Beto on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maz and Beto if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Freshfields Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maz and Beto already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maz and Beto isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Freshfields Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maz and Beto and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
