Adopt Meg

Border Collie · Female · Young · 2 years

Meg is looking for a quiet home with older children aged 14+ who can understand when she needs a little space. She could potentially live with a calm, well-mannered dog following successful introductions, but she would also be happy as the only dog in the home. Her ideal family will be around for much of the day initially to help her settle and work on leaving hours gradually. Experience with nervous dogs would be beneficial, although the most important thing is a patient and understanding approach. In return, Meg will reward her family with loyalty, companionship and the joy of seeing a shy dog blossom into a confident and happy companion. With plenty of toys, gentle encouragement and lots of love, Meg has all the makings of a wonderful best friend. Meg is a lovely, gentle girl who is looking for a patient family willing to give her the time she needs to settle into home life. New people and unfamiliar environments can feel a little overwhelming for her at first, but with kindness and understanding she begins to show her sweet and affectionate nature. Meg absolutely loves her toys and they are a fantastic way to build a bond with her. Whether she's carrying them around proudly, playing by herself, or enjoying a game with her favourite people, toys are one of her greatest joys. She would thrive in a calm, quieter home where she can continue to build confidence at her own pace. Meg will need her leaving hours built up gradually and would benefit from adopters who can help her navigate new experiences with patience and reassurance. Watching her grow in confidence and come out of her shell is incredibly rewarding.

About Meg

What life with Meg looks like

Meg is a young adult border collie dog waiting at Dogs Trust Darlington in Sadberge.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Meg, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Meg?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Darlington handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Meg on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Meg if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Darlington will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Meg already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Meg isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Darlington early rather than rehoming privately; they know Meg and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
