FOUR-LEGGED FRIEND Megan Sex: Female dog • neutered Age: Senior • approx. 8.5 years • born 04/2018 Size: Large Location: In Montenegro • in private foster care with animal welfare volunteer Una in Bar/Stari Bar Short description: Seeking a retirement place • emergency case with an open wound on the hind leg that is healing only slowly (no fracture) and poor coat (cause unknown, blood values good) • socially compatible Adoption fee: Waived for a retirement placement To the interested party form Information on "Offer a retirement place" Description * We first noticed Megan in autumn 2022 during a trip to the area. Her home was near a roundabout connecting Bar and Stari Bar, where several shops are located. Close by are several fields where so-called shadow dogs are said to live (they only come out after dark). Megan, however, could also be seen during the day, together with her two dog friends, one of whom – Harry – turned out to be her son. Megan and Harry received their names before we knew they were mother and son ☺. They were apparently abandoned several years ago by their owners, who then moved away. When we first saw Megan, her coat was already very poor and she had a swollen belly, but otherwise she was in good spirits. As we had too many emergency cases at the time, we could do nothing more than feed her and administer parasite treatment. In September 2023 we met the two of them again, and Megan had a huge open flesh wound on her left hind paw. She could not put weight on it and, because of her pain, was aggressive, so we could not secure her. For over 2 weeks we administered antibiotics to her from a distance, using a lot of sausage, to ease the inflammation. We could not manage to capture her even with a live trap. Unfortunately we then had to leave, but with a great deal of luck a befriended animal welfare volunteer was able to secure Megan a few weeks later, and since then she has been (unfortunately without Harry) in a very loving foster home. She has since been neutered, and her wound is healing, though very, very slowly. The healing process has already taken several months, but it is improving. Her coat is also gradually getting better, and as a result her aggression is decreasing. It is not yet entirely clear what will happen to Megan. We do not yet know whether she has a chance at a home or whether she will return to where she is familiar and where Harry is. The dogs there are fed regularly and have a mattress as a sleeping place. Megan will only be placed as a retirement dog at a final location, not for further rehoming. All costs incurred in Germany for veterinary treatment, medication and care are fully covered by the association. We are looking for a calm, loving home with people who have heart and understanding for an older, sick animal. No dog should have to spend its final time in a kennel. If you would like to give Megan a warm bed, even though her complete state of health and remaining life expectancy are unclear at this point, we look forward to hearing from you. ____________ Are you interested in Megan? To the interested party form Megan is an emergency case Due to her slowly healing injury to the hind leg, regular veterinary and medication costs arise. In addition, Megan needs physiotherapy to support her as well as possible. Information on emergency cases Thanks SPONSORSHIP Because of her long stay at the local foster home with animal welfare volunteer Una in Bar/Stari Bar, Megan is part of our sponsorship program. She has lived at her foster home since the end of 2023 and has thus been searching for her forever home for more than 2 years. We therefore want to support her foster home with ongoing costs. Dana supports us as a sponsor in covering these ongoing costs for Megan, thereby securing her care in the long term until she finds her forever home or a retirement place. _____________ Many thanks, Dana! More about the sponsorship program General note The behaviors described here are those the animal currently shows in its present environment. The animal's behavior may still change, or it may show itself differently, in a new environment and context. We can only provide information about how the animal currently behaves to the best of our knowledge and belief. We are happy to support you, especially in the early period, and help with the settling-in process. A

____________ Hast Du Interesse an Megan? _____________ Vielen Dank Dana! About Megan

What life with Megan looks like

Megan is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Caramelli Rescue Montenegro in Nationwide.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇲🇪Adopting from Montenegro

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Megan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Megan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Caramelli Rescue Montenegro handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Megan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Megan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Caramelli Rescue Montenegro will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Megan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Megan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Caramelli Rescue Montenegro early rather than rehoming privately; they know Megan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
