adoption requirements adoption process Adopt now this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Meike has found her home! Her story: A young female dog with heart, brains, and a lot of potential is looking for her home and finally wants to arrive. Meike is a true dream puppy: friendly, people-oriented, balanced – and so eager to learn that she will surely bring plenty of joy to her future home. She loves cuddles, enjoys being spoiled with treats, and shows a calm, pleasant nature that is not always typical for her age. Currently, Meike is about 7 months old and will likely grow to be medium to large when fully grown. Meike is on her way to becoming a great lifelong companion. She knows the human connection, seeks closeness, and enjoys every form of affection. Step by step, she is learning to handle leash and harness – and shows a lot of openness and cooperative spirit. Her friendly nature makes her, according to current knowledge, also a pleasant family member when it comes to getting along with other dogs. Whether she likes cats, we unfortunately cannot say at the moment. Our helpers first encountered Meike near an industrial site, not far from the shelter. While the dogs living there were already known, Maike immediately caught their attention: she would sit in front of the gate repeatedly – never behind it. At first, she was cautious and avoided them. But eventually, hunger won, and after a week, our team was able to bring her to safety. Currently, Meike is approaching puberty – a time when young dogs begin to question their environment more strongly. With loving consistency, patience, and a good dose of humor, she will also master this phase well. Attending a non-violent dog training class would be ideal for her to gain more confidence and strengthen her bond with her new family. Meike will be neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas before traveling to her new home. She will come with her own EU pet passport and a lot of enthusiasm for shared adventures by her people's side. She will only be placed with positive adoption. A foster home is also a great chance for the start of a beautiful dog life and would make her very happy! Now, Meike is waiting for people who will give her a permanent place in life – with closeness, understanding, and the joy of going through thick and thin together. Who will take Meike by the paw and show her how wonderful it is to have a real home? Many thanks to Ralph O.! You gave Meike her name. Date: 02.10.

Vielen Dank an Ralph O.! Du hast Meike Ihren Namen geschenkt. Stand: 02.10.2025

About Meike

What life with Meike looks like

Meike is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Meike, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Meike?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Meike on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Meike if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Meike already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Meike isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Meike and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
