Mel

Labrador Retriever · Female · Puppy · 11 months

This lovely girl is 11 months old. She has let a pretty sheltered life until recently so can be a little apprehensive in new situations, but this is improving daily. She is still very puppy like, jumps up and still mouths so if there are children in her new home they would need to be teenaged plus. She walks fairly well on the lead for a youngster and is receptive to commands. She is clean in the house. This girlie has not lived with other dogs but off lead she loves to play. She can be a bit more reserved on lead. We are looking for an experienced, patient home where someone is around for most of the day. She can be a little anxious on first meeting, but within a few minutes she is up for a game. If you feel you could be her next new owner, and live in an area we cover, please email or with a little about the home you have to offer and your experience. Due to the volume of enquiries we can only reply to anyone who is shortlisted.

About Mel

What life with Mel looks like

Mel is a puppy/kitten labrador retriever dog waiting at Labrador Lifeline Trust in Tadley.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Labrador Lifeline Trust handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Labrador Lifeline Trust will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Labrador Lifeline Trust early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
