Melani

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Terrier Mix Melani – a sunshine on four paws! Melani is a charming Terrier mix dog (Cairn Terrier or Norfolk Terrier?) in the prime of her young-adult years. At just eleven months old, she’s no longer a tiny puppy, but she’s still bursting with energy, curiosity, and eagerness to explore. As a puppy, Melani was taken in by a lady who eventually found herself overwhelmed by the demands of a lively, energetic young dog. As a result, Melani sadly had to move into an animal shelter, where she’s now waiting for people who’ll give her the chance at a fresh start. Terriers are known for their cheerful, active, and sometimes even spirited nature—and that’s exactly what applies to Melani. She probably hasn’t had much opportunity to learn yet, but at her young age, she can easily catch up on everything. She’s looking for people who have patience, empathy, and ideally some experience with dogs—people who’ll enjoy working with her and teaching her step by step everything that goes into a happy dog life. Melani longs to discover new things, learn, play, and finally feel truly settled. Who will give this lovable young pup the time, attention, and love she deserves—whether in a permanent home or initially as a foster carer? Click here for Melani’s video!

About Melani

What life with Melani looks like

Melani is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Melani, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Melani?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Melani on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Melani if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Melani already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Melani isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Melani and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
