Mella

Mixed Breed · Female

Mella - a gentle rough diamond is looking for her forever home 🐾 Mella has been in foster care since Sunday, September 27th, and has settled in surprisingly well. The pretty young lady is extremely friendly, loving, and easy to handle with both two-legged and four-legged friends. She shares her temporary home with seven other dogs. In addition, different day dogs come to us daily - Mella also masters this completely relaxed. She is social and enjoys the company of her fellow canines. In her two years of life, Mella has apparently not had much to learn and experience. It's all the more beautiful to see how quickly she understands new things and gains trust. Mella is a real rough diamond. 💎 The stairs and getting into the car were initially frightening for her. Already on the third day, she had overcome this uncertainty - today, both things are no longer a problem. She shows herself to be a very teachable, gentle, and attentive female dog. Mella needs neither loud words nor harsh corrections. On the contrary: she reacts very well to a calm, fine, but consistent leadership and obviously wants to please her human. Also, when walking on a leash, there is still a lot to learn. Currently, her running style sometimes reminds a little of a small wiper. 😉 Of course, we will continue to work on this. Currently, she wears a harness she already knows, as well as a collar. She finds it a bit unusual to be led on the leash, but there are already clear improvements to be seen - towards the end of the walk, it works really well. Mella is house trained. Outdoors, the distraction is currently so great that she prefers to take her business home and reliably does it on our large "dog toilet". 😂 Experience tells us, however: with so many four-legged role models, this topic will probably not be long in coming. We wish Mella people who enjoy lovingly and patiently teaching her the dog 1x1 and accompanying her on her further journey. People who give her security, give her time and at the same time enjoy learning with her. A home where she can continue to enjoy regular social contacts with fellow canines, at least on the go, would be especially nice for her. A house with a garden would of course be a dream, because Mella loves to doze in the sun, romp around and play with us and the other dogs outside. ☀️🐾 We are convinced that Mella has an incredible amount of potential. She is a sweet, gentle, and eager-to-learn female dog who now just needs people to show her how beautiful a home of her own can be. ❤️ Interested in our lovely Mella? ❤️ Interesse an unserer hübschen Mella?

About Mella

What life with Mella looks like

Mella is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at SOS Strassenhunde in Sos Strassenhunde.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mella, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mella?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SOS Strassenhunde handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mella on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mella if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SOS Strassenhunde will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mella already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mella isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SOS Strassenhunde early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mella and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
