Melody

Female · Young · 3 years

Hi friends, it's me, Melody! I came into the centre as a stray so not much is known about my past. My humans here have been getting to know me and they have said so many good things about me! I'm nearly 4 years old and cannot wait to experience a normal life, lounging on the sofa, sniffing in the garden and getting my paws out and about on countryside walks. Sometimes I need to be reminded to keep my paws on the floor but I'm mostly very polite and gentle. So gentle, that my ever growing collection of soft toys all get placed neatly in my bed and I love them oh so much! I'm discovering my love for other toys now too and enjoy a game of tug, playing ball and absolutely everything squeaky is a big favourite with me. Cuddles are a big part of my day here and I really like to get on your lap (yes, I'm definitely the right size to be a lap dog!!) so I'd be happy sharing my new sofa with you - if you don't mind of course!I really love going out on walks and can sniff ALLLLL day long. Unfortunately I really lack confidence around other dogs and can become quite vocal when I see them. My people here have been helping me with this and can tell you all about how best to work with me. I would prefer a home where my walks can be quite rural as busy street walking isn't really my thing. I am not sure how I would feel around children, so this would need to be discussed with my people at the centre, but any children would need to be sensible and older. If you think you could be the person for me, please get in contact with my friends here at the centre who can tell you more about me! About Melody

What life with Melody looks like

Melody is a large young adult dog waiting at National Animal Welfare Trust in Watford.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Melody, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Melody?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. National Animal Welfare Trust handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Melody on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Melody if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — National Animal Welfare Trust will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Melody already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Melody isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with National Animal Welfare Trust early rather than rehoming privately; they know Melody and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
