Adopt Merlin

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Animal rescuer: Virginia Georgieva Born: approx. April 2025 Gender: male Location: Bulgaria Neutered: yes FIV test: negative FeLV test: negative Handicaps: no Compatible with: Children: unknown Cats: yes Dogs: unknown Requirements: NO solitary housing Only suitable for apartment living NO outdoor access Balcony or terrace desirable (if present, must be secured) Merlin and his brother lived together on the streets—unfortunately, we don’t know whether they were born there or were abandoned. A volunteer caught the two of them to have them neutered. But Virginia couldn’t bring herself to return the two young tomcats back to the streets. She took the brothers into her animal shelter, giving them a chance at a safe life—and perhaps soon, their very own loving home. Merlin is a tomcat who hasn’t yet learned to trust humans. Life in the animal shelter and proximity to people still frighten him greatly, which is why he currently won’t allow himself to be touched. Virginia has even wondered if life on the streets might be less stressful for him. Yet Merlin is still so young, and we haven’t given up hope that, with time, patience, and love, he’ll come to understand that people can also mean something wonderful. With other cats, however, Merlin has absolutely no issues—he’s very social and gets along well with them. Their company gives him additional security and orientation. We’re looking for a calm, understanding home for Merlin, with people who will give him the time he needs to build trust. For him especially, having his own home would be a crucial step toward truly settling in and continuing to grow. He needs patience, empathy, and the chance to adjust at his own pace. Whoever gives Merlin this opportunity will have the privilege of accompanying a truly special tomcat on his journey—and hopefully, over time, witness him gradually open his heart and reveal just how much love he carries within.

About Merlin

What life with Merlin looks like

Merlin is a large young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Glücksnasen e.V. Tierschutzverein in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Merlin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Merlin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Glücksnasen e.V. Tierschutzverein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Merlin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Merlin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Glücksnasen e.V. Tierschutzverein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Merlin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Merlin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Glücksnasen e.V. Tierschutzverein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Merlin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
