Akira Dog Sanctuary Input November 18, 2025: Merlin has been at Akira's animal shelter since 2020. He has made significant progress, but he still finds people he doesn't know exciting. Fortunately, he really enjoys going for walks, even with people he doesn't know. He walks calmly with you and enjoys the peace of being outside. Outside, he also takes cookies and you can give him a pet. Inside, it is much more exciting for him and then he looks for a corner of the kennel run. Volunteers who know him well can approach and pet him inside his kennel run. Although Merlin is a true Podenco, he loves water! He can have a lot of fun in a shallow pool and also likes to lie in it on a warm day in Spain. Merlin is a climber and has climbed over a 2.2 meter high fence at the animal shelter. A good high and sturdy fenced garden is a must. Merlin gets along well with female dog and some reutjes. Merlin is certainly not a beginner's dog; you really need to build trust slowly with him. He seeks a quiet environment, preferably somewhat secluded or in a forested area. We understand that his list of ideal adopters is very small, but we still hope to find the needle in the haystack for this magnificent Podenco.

Gereserveerd via het asiel, mei 2026 Akira Dog Sanctuary Input 18 november 2025: Merlin zit al sinds 2020 in het asiel van Akira. Hij heeft al flinke stappen gemaakt, maar hij vindt mensen die hij niet kent nog altijd spannend. Hij gaat gelukkig wel heel graag mee wandelen, ook met mensen die hij niet kent. Hij wandelt heel rustig met je mee en geniet van de rust van het buiten zijn. Buiten neemt hij ook koekjes aan en kun je hem ook een aai geven. Binnen vindt hij het veel spannender en dan zoekt hij een hoek van de kennel op. Vrijwilligers die hem goed kennen, kunnen hem ook binnen in zijn kennel benaderen en aaien. Hoewel Merlin een echte Podenco is, is hij gek op water! Hij kan zich goed vermaken in een laagje water en ligt er ook graag in tijdens een warme dag in Spanje. Merlin is een klimmer en is in het asiel over een 2,2 meter hoge omheining geklommen. Een goed hoge en stevig omheinde tuin is een must. Merlin kan goed overweg met teefjes en met sommige reutjes. Merlin is zeker geen beginnershond, hij is een hond waarbij je het vertrouwen echt rustig aan op moet bouwen. Hij zoekt een rustige omgeving, het liefst wat achteraf of in een bosrijke omgeving. We begrijpen dat zijn vijver met ideale adoptanten erg klein is, maar we hopen toch de speld in de hooiberg te vinden voor deze prachtige Podenco.
