Mia

European Shorthair · Female · Adult · 7 years

Mia, 8 years old, would like to introduce herself to you. I am a beautiful black cat with large, curious eyes and my own unique personality. When I feel comfortable and have my humans with me, I am incredibly affectionate, clingy, and loving. I enjoy attention and closeness very much and can be a real little cuddly cat. I would love to have my humans all to myself - and that is unfortunately also my biggest challenge. I am a cat that needs a lot of attention and does not like to share it, as I am very jealous and territorial. I like to claim my humans and my environment for myself and can defend them against others. Therefore, living with my brother is no longer working well. There are often violent fights between us, which sometimes even end in bloodshed. Since a move, my behavior has intensified. Unfortunately, I no longer direct my aggression only against my brother, but sometimes also against my humans. My family has therefore tried very hard to help me, but unfortunately without success. The situation has become too stressful for all parties involved. What I wish for: a home where I can be the single princess. A quiet place where I do not have to share my humans with other cats and get enough time, attention, and understanding. People who are willing to adapt to my character, respect my boundaries, and give me the opportunity to build trust at my own pace. My family does not want a random new home for me, but people who really get to know me, understand my story, and give me a fair chance. Maybe you are the person who finally gives me the undivided attention I so desperately crave. P.S. For snacks, I like to eat treats the most.

Ps. Zum Naschen mag ich am liebsten Schlecksnacks

About Mia

What life with Mia looks like

Mia is a large adult european shorthair cat waiting at Kolner Tierschutzverein in Köln.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kolner Tierschutzverein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kolner Tierschutzverein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kolner Tierschutzverein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
