You think you see a golden eye watching you from the shelter of shadows – but, then again, you might be mistaken. Like the parable of The Three Blind Men and the Elephant, you aren’t sure whether – or how – these various elements cohere into a single organism. It’s only when you leave your own hand hanging there like a Christmas bauble that you see her in her entirety. For she is drawn to the hand and must, it seems, slide from out of her hiding space to brush herself against it. Affection is the one thing that brings this naturally cautious cat out of her timidity. She lives for it. Hand grazing over her head and between her ears, hand along her back and lifted over her rump, hand tracing the line of her tail. All of a sudden, ears and paws and tails and eyes are brought together. Not as separate parts but as one whole cat – and she is beautiful. And gentle and tender and sweet. Mia is not merely anything at all, she’s everything, the whole package, ready to make the right home very happy indeed. About Mia

What life with Mia looks like

Mia is a young adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at RSPCA Chesterfield and North Derbyshire in United Kingdom.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Chesterfield and North Derbyshire handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA Chesterfield and North Derbyshire will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Chesterfield and North Derbyshire early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
