Adopt Michel

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Heartbreaker on velvet paws seeks dream home ❤️ Our enchanting tomcat Michel (6 years young) is an absolute treasure: extremely people-oriented, cuddly, and clingy. He loves to doze in the sun, enjoy long cuddle sessions, and spend time together. Small games with balls, fishing rod toys, and delicious treats are definitely among his greatest joys. He is always curious about what his humans are doing and likes to follow along, watch, or even lie across the laptop when he thinks it's time for some attention. Since he no longer harmonizes with other cats due to health reasons, he now wishes for a loving single spot with cat-experienced people who have plenty of time for him. A secure outdoor area or at least a well-secured balcony is absolutely necessary for his happiness – after all, sunbathing is a quality of life! The handsome fellow had a skull-brain trauma as a kitten, which has led to epilepsy and increased brain pressure today. He suffers from ataxia, and his sometimes slightly uncoordinated movements have unfortunately affected his rear joints with arthritis. He needs to take medication twice a day, but he takes it quite calmly. Additionally, he has been suffering from a severe food intolerance with strong itching for a year, so he currently only eats kangaroo food – which he handles well. After his time at the animal welfare association and 4 years in a new home, it became increasingly clear that he would be much happier with more peace and without other animals. He currently lives with a young woman who, although she loves him very much, cannot give him the time he needs – which is why we are reluctantly looking for a new forever home for this wonderful tomcat. We wish for him:

About Michel

What life with Michel looks like

Michel is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Ibbenbüren in Ibbenbüren.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Michel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Michel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Ibbenbüren handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Michel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Michel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Ibbenbüren will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Michel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Michel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Ibbenbüren early rather than rehoming privately; they know Michel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
