Mickey

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy

Description Our animal welfare workers report: Mickeys fate shook our Romanian animal welfare workers - he was kept on a chain for his entire life. His owner was heartless; there was a roof but no warmth. It was some kind of carport that provided shade in the summer but offered no protection from cold, wind, and rain. The iron chain was about three to five meters long. Recently, she also stopped feeding Mickey and gave him nothing to drink! The animal rescuer approached the completely hardened owner and convinced her to let Mickey go, which she thankfully agreed to. When the animal rescuer untied the chain (see video), Mickey went directly, happily and curiously sniffing around. He was completely agreeable to leaving this dark place he had endured as his home for his entire life. At the animal shelter, he shows friendliness towards fellow animals and cats. Mickey likely knows cats. Although Mickeys years were lonely and sad, he shows cooperative and even curious behavior with the animal caregivers. Mickey examines everything very closely, sniffs at everything, and for him, it’s all a new world. He is not shy but rather lively. Mickey now waits for people who don’t mind that he’s no longer a puppy but also not a senior. He is still very fit, full of interest and curiosity, eager to learn, and appears fit. However, Mickey doesn’t know the world yet; he doesn’t know a typical household life or walks with a leash, with dishes on, or being led by a harness – all these things are now being practiced at the animal shelter with the loving male dogs. Mickey signals with every cell of his body that he is ready for a big change, ready for a new challenge. He doesn’t want to have to bark when someone comes, he wants to discover life now, together with a primary caregiver who stands by him lovingly. Who gives Mickey the chance for a dignified happy ending? Update 08.04.2026: New photos (Mickey enjoys nature)12.03.2026: New photos. A club colleague was on site and reports: Mickey was very interested and even came out of his hut to greet me. He wagged his tail friendly and allowed himself to be gently touched. Because his roommate was so nervous, he observed much of it with a bit of distance – but his curiosity and gentle nature were clearly felt. Please note:

About Mickey

What life with Mickey looks like

Mickey is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mickey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mickey?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mickey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mickey if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mickey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mickey isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mickey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
