Adopt Mientje

European Shorthair · Unknown · Senior · 13 years

Get to know Mientje, a charming lady of 13 years old seeking a new home. Due to circumstances, her previous owner could no longer care for her, giving this lovely senior the chance to start a new chapter. Mientje has always been accustomed to a life with a garden. Although she used to enjoy going on explorations, she prefers to stay close to home these days and particularly enjoys the peace and safety of her familiar surroundings. This sweet lady may have gathered a few gray hairs, but her heart is still full of love. She adores long cuddle sessions, cozy naps, and a lovely spot in the sun where she can dream for hours. A blood test revealed that her thyroid needs a bit of extra support, so Mientje receives medication twice a day. Otherwise, she fully enjoys life and is not held back by this. Mientje grew up as the only pet with one owner in a quiet home. That's why we are looking for a new calm home where she can receive all the attention she deserves. A home with a garden and people who enjoy the company of a calm, affectionate cat would be ideal for her. Will you give this lovely senior a soft landing and a warm spot to enjoy her retirement?

About Mientje

What life with Mientje looks like

Mientje is a senior european shorthair cat waiting at Dierenasiel Ganzeweide in Veurne.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mientje, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mientje?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Ganzeweide handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mientje on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mientje if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Ganzeweide will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mientje already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mientje isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Ganzeweide early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mientje and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
