Miguel

Lurcher · Male · Young · 1 year

Hi everyone! Miguel here! I am just a young boy with a whole lot of personality and bursting with fun energy. I arrived at the centre having been a stray so not much is known about my past, but I'm putting that behind me and looking forward to a new life full of toys and snacks. I have a huge love for toys of all kinds and can be found tossing them around and playing with them all by myself but I do really love a game of fetch (although I wont be bringing the toy back to you!) and my absolute favourite game is the flirt pole which I love to chase around! Being extremely foodie, I like treats of all kinds and this makes training me a breeze. I like to think I am the goodest boy ever but my people here keep calling me "paws on the floor please" so I guess I've got a few things to learn still?! Despite my bouncy exterior, I am a really snuggly boy and like to rest my head on your shoulder for a cuddle and I think I'll really enjoy lounging around on the sofa with my new family.I have met some dogs here and I am not entirely sure how I feel about them but I think they could be really fun. If you have a friendly pooch, my people here would be able to talk to you about whether this could work for me. Unfortunately I have a very high prey drive so no small dogs, cats or small furries please! It is unknown whether I've experienced children but I am a very loving chap so older children who have had a bouncy dog in their lives before would probably be very fun for me! If you are looking for the most handsome dog in the world, look no further! Send your application to my people here at the centre! About Miguel

What life with Miguel looks like

Miguel is a extra-large young adult lurcher dog waiting at National Animal Welfare Trust in Watford.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Miguel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Miguel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. National Animal Welfare Trust handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Miguel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Miguel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — National Animal Welfare Trust will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Miguel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Miguel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with National Animal Welfare Trust early rather than rehoming privately; they know Miguel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
