Mija

Female · Adult · 6 years

Mija is a sunbeam in a striped coat. From afar, she looks like a calm lady, but it only takes a moment to discover that she's a true explorer. Mija loves exploring the world - with great enthusiasm, she sniffs every corner, and when water appears nearby... she immediately turns into a beaver 🦦. She feels best on quiet walks, especially when she can go alone with a person. In these conditions, she uses them 100% - she is attentive, often turns back, seeks contact, responds to her name and changes in direction. It beautifully shows how focused she can be on her caregiver. Mija is smart, clever and learns quickly. She can work with a person, although trust in people did not come easily to her. She needs time to open her dog heart. She won't run right away for pats - that's not her style. But once she gets to know someone well, she allows herself a delicate contact: a scratch under the chin or behind the ear. In a home, she will certainly find it easier to open up, however, we don't know if she will ever become a typical cuddlebug - and that's okay. Not every dog has to love touch to strongly love a person. Mija can be picky in relations with other dogs. She likes some and not others. When she walks alone, she is more focused on the person. Due to her shyness towards people, Mija needs more time to build a relationship with a person. It is possible that the adoption process may have to be extended, so that the female dog has the opportunity to calmly get to know the future family and feel safe. We dream of her going to a quiet home, away from the city noise, to people who have experience with dogs and understand that trust is built with small steps. Mija is an extraordinary girl. She is waiting for someone who will notice it and give her the time she needs. If you feel that you could be that person - call and meet Mija.

Mija to słońce w pręgowanym futerku. Potrzebuje czasu, by otworzyć swoje psie serce. Mija to wyjątkowa dziewczyna. Magda 609266951 Wanda 792886672 Behawiorystka 514360970

About Mija

What life with Mija looks like

Mija is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs quiet rural environment, requires extended adoption process for trust building

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mija, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mija?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mija on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mija if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mija already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mija isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mija and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
