Adopt Mika

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 12 years

Unfortunately, not all stories end with "and they lived happily ever after"... Unfortunately, love alone is not enough for an animal to be healthy and happy... We, humans, are responsible for our actions and all the decisions we make, even when life turns upside down... There is always a way out of any situation, and problems can always be solved with as little damage as possible. Unfortunately, the damage to Mika has already been done. Luckily, finally her human decided to return her to our shelter. She was taken more than 12 years ago. She was loved, but not properly cared for. Mika arrived at our shelter urinating blood. According to the owner, she had been doing this for half a year. It's heartbreaking to think about how Mika suffered for half a year feeling pain and discomfort. She had strange wounds around her eye. According to the owner, those were there for half a year. As soon as Mika arrived, the next day we went to the veterinary clinic. Blood tests were performed. Luckily, everything was okay. An ultrasound scan was done, a urine sample was taken and sent to the laboratory for analysis. We received the results that enterococci were found in the urine, there was an infection of the urinary tract. A course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication was prescribed. Drops and ointment were prescribed for her eyes. The medication is already working, Mika no longer feels pain and discomfort, there is no blood in her urine. She is a very friendly and cheerful senior. As soon as she sees us, she immediately starts to rejoice. After a week, we will go for a follow-up examination.

About Mika

What life with Mika looks like

Mika is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at SOS Gyvūnai in Šalčininkų r. sav..

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mika, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mika?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SOS Gyvūnai handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mika on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mika if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SOS Gyvūnai will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mika already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mika isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SOS Gyvūnai early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mika and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
