Adopt Mika

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

Mika came to us at the animal shelter with her "Gspändli" Mila, as her owner unexpectedly passed away. Mika is more of an insecure female dog and will initially growl at unfamiliar people for self-protection. Once she has built trust and the ice is broken, she enjoys generous cuddles. She would rather spend the whole day cuddling and spending time with her people. When Mika arrived, she was significantly overweight. While she has already lost some kilograms, she still needs to lose a bit more weight. The beautiful female dog has already lived with other dogs and children. However, we believe that the little mouse would feel more comfortable as a solo princess. She would also be happy to be placed with her dog companion Mila. Unfortunately, we know very little about Mika's past. Therefore, we do not know whether she has been neutered or not. During her stay with us, she has not yet gone into heat. Mika already has a good basic obedience. Nevertheless, she should continue to attend dog training classes to gain more confidence. Leisibachstrasse 16 037 Root 041 450 00 Monday – Friday:

About Mika

What life with Mika looks like

Mika is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim an der Ron.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mika, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mika?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim an der Ron handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mika on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mika if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim an der Ron will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mika already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mika isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim an der Ron early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mika and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
