Adopt Mikel

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Male, neutered, born around March 20, 2023, mixed breed, height about 51 cm / weight about 18 kg. Foster location Spain: Refugio Amposta. The calm, still somewhat shy mixed-breed male dog Mikel was already brought by Monika from the Vinaros pound to her refuge on June 28, 2024. We know nothing further about his past. Mikel is a chocolate-brown, reserved male dog who doesn’t push himself to the forefront and prefers to wait in the background until he receives treats or affection. In the pack, he is friendly and compatible with all the other dogs. Anais and Daniela had the opportunity to meet the dear boy personally during their stay at the refuge. For some reason, Mikel always gets overlooked, although he is neither fearful nor extremely insecure and, above all, he is really handsome. As soon as someone spends some time with him and sits in his kennel, he doesn’t leave their side and approaches very cautiously. He is not prone to barking and walks nicely on the leash. We wish for Mikel safe people who appreciate a loyal companion by their side and enjoy being in nature. Mikel still has a lot to learn and wants to be physically and mentally stimulated. Where are the people for Mikel? He has been waiting for so long. Please get in touch with us right away.

About Mikel

What life with Mikel looks like

Mikel is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at ANDANA Pfotenhilfe Schweiz in Switzerland.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mikel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mikel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ANDANA Pfotenhilfe Schweiz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mikel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mikel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ANDANA Pfotenhilfe Schweiz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mikel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mikel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ANDANA Pfotenhilfe Schweiz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mikel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
